Undo and Redo

Undo or redo recent Design Editor changes and understand the limits of in-session history.

Use undo when a recent edit does not work, then redo if you decide to keep it. The Design Editor tracks an in-session editing history, not a permanent library of named page or section versions.

Undo a Recent Design Change

Finish the current interaction

Stop dragging or typing so you can inspect the current result.

Use Undo

Use the editing rail's undo control. The control is disabled when there is no available earlier step.

Check what changed

Review the canvas and panel values. If you reversed too much, use redo.

The stack keeps up to 50 tracked snapshots. A fresh edit after undo clears the redo branch, and older snapshots drop off when the limit is reached.

The history recorder tracks user edits to the canvas and the design system. That includes changes such as layouts, text and media maps, palette and fonts, button/card/badge choices, typography and spacing scales, section style, icon style, and logo size when the relevant owner has loaded its value.

AI-generated background updates and hydration are not all treated as independent manual editing steps. Do not assume one undo click corresponds to one network request or one generated word.

Keyboard Undo and Text Fields

Use Ctrl+Z on Windows or Cmd+Z on Mac to undo. Use Ctrl+Shift+Z or Cmd+Shift+Z to redo. The Design Editor recognizes either Ctrl or Cmd with Z. While you are typing in an input, textarea, or editable canvas text, the design-level shortcut stands down so the browser's text undo can work.

This distinction prevents a text correction from unexpectedly undoing a previous layout or palette change. Leave the text field and use the rail control when you intend to undo a design change instead.

Undo a Layout Choice

The section Layout panel has its own Undo layout change control. It restores the previous layout choice for that section. It remains disabled until a previous layout is available.

This is not a section version browser. It does not let you select a dated design from a permanent archive.

Autosave Is Not Version History

Current design state is persisted, but the undo stack is held in the editing session. Do not rely on it surviving a reload, closing the editor, changing projects, or returning on another device.

There is no documented persistent page or section version history in this workflow. If a change is important, review it before leaving the session. Undo is not a backup strategy.

Settings cards have their own Save workflow. Do not assume the design canvas's undo restores every Page Settings or Site Settings field. Likewise, this guide does not promise undo for publishing, exports, uploads deleted from a library, or project deletion.

If Nothing Seems to Change

Some history steps can already match the design currently on screen. The editor reports that nothing changed rather than claiming a successful visible restore. Check the actual canvas instead of relying only on the toast.

If undo is disabled, there is no available earlier step in that session. Try the selected section's layout undo only if the change was a layout choice and that control is enabled.
