# Creating Templates

Create a new theme template with the Composer widget and publish it with a display condition.

Creating a Theme Builder template means choosing a template type, building a layout with the Composer widget, and saving it.

### Open the Theme Builder

Go to **UiChemy → Theme Builder** in your WordPress dashboard, it opens in Grid view.

### Create a New Template

1. Click **+ Add New** (top right).
2. Choose a template type: Header, Footer, Single (Post / Page), Archive, Single Product, Products Archive, Search Results, or 404 Page.
3. The template opens in the WordPress editor (Gutenberg) by default. If Elementor is installed, you can open it with Elementor instead and keep building there the same way. Use **Edit** on the template card to reopen it later, it opens in the builder shown on the card's badge.

You can have multiple templates of the same type, for example, two different headers, and control which one shows where using display conditions (Header, Footer, Single, and Archive types only, see [Assigning Conditions](/uichemy-plugin/theme-builder/assigning-conditions)).
</Callout>

<Callout kind="info">
Elementor doesn't need to be active for Single, Archive, Search Results, 404 Page, or WooCommerce templates to display. They also work on sites built with Gutenberg or Bricks.
</Callout>

### Build the Template

1. Search for **Composer** in the widget/block panel and add it to the canvas.
2. Choose how to build it:
   - **AI Chat** *(Pro)*, describe the layout you want in plain English.
   - **Code tab**, write HTML, CSS, and JS directly.
   - **Editor tab**, adjust visually, useful when importing an existing Composer widget.

### Save and Assign Conditions

Click **Update** to save the template.

- **Header and Footer templates** default to matching the entire site as soon as they're active, add conditions only if you want to narrow that down.
- **Single and Archive templates** need a target (which post type or taxonomy) set when you create them, conditions further narrow within that target.
- **Search Results, 404 Page, Single Product, and Products Archive templates** have no conditions to set, activating one is enough.

See [Assigning Conditions](/uichemy-plugin/theme-builder/assigning-conditions) for the full model.

### Managing Existing Templates

Each template card in Grid view shows:

- **An activation toggle**, labeled with the builder (for example, "Elementor"). Turning it on activates the template site-wide (or wherever its conditions match); turning it off deactivates it without deleting it.
- **Edit**, reopens the template for editing in the builder shown on its badge.
- **Conditions**, opens the Display Conditions popup to manage where it appears. See [Assigning Conditions](/uichemy-plugin/theme-builder/assigning-conditions).
- **A ⋮ menu**, with **Copy shortcode**, **Preview**, and **Delete**.

<Callout kind="tip">
The activation toggle and display conditions work together, but they're separate: a template can be active with conditions still set to "Entire Website," or have specific conditions configured while sitting deactivated.
</Callout>
