# Troubleshooting: Common Issues & Fixes

Fixes for the most common UiChemy issues: the Composer widget not appearing, editable fields missing, CSS not applying, Theme Builder templates not applying, and more.

Find your symptom below and follow the fix. If the issue isn't listed, check [Requirements & Compatibility](/uichemy-composer/getting-started/requirements) to make sure your environment is supported.

## Setup

### Composer Widget Does Not Appear in Elementor

**Symptom:** You search "Composer" in the Elementor widget panel and nothing shows up.

**Fixes:**

1. Go to **WordPress → Plugins** and confirm UiChemy is active.
2. Confirm Elementor is also active on the same screen.
3. If both are active, deactivate UiChemy, then reactivate it. This registers the widget with Elementor again.
4. Clear your site's cache, including any caching plugin or host cache, then reload the Elementor editor.

### Plugin Conflict or White Screen After Activating UiChemy

**Symptom:** Activating UiChemy causes a white screen, a PHP fatal error, or breaks the WordPress admin.

**Fixes:**

1. Access your site via FTP or your host's File Manager and temporarily rename the UiChemy folder under `/wp-content/plugins/`. This deactivates it without needing the WordPress admin.
2. Check your PHP error log for the specific error and the plugin it points to.
3. Deactivate all other plugins, reactivate UiChemy, then reactivate the other plugins one at a time to find the conflict.
4. Make sure your server meets the [minimum requirements](/uichemy-composer/getting-started/requirements).

<Callout kind="warning">
Take a backup before renaming plugin folders over FTP. Rename only the UiChemy folder, and change it back once your admin is working again so the plugin can be reactivated normally.
</Callout>

## Editing

### Editable Fields Are Not Appearing in the Content Tab

**Symptom:** After saving the Composer widget, the Content tab in the Elementor left panel is empty or missing expected text fields.

**Fixes:**

1. Click **Save** inside the code editor (not just the Elementor Update button) and wait for the save to complete.
2. Click away from the widget, then click back onto it to refresh the panel.
3. Check that the HTML has content UiChemy can pick up. Text inside elements like `<h1>`, `<p>`, `<a>`, and `<button>` is detected automatically. See [Editable Fields](/uichemy-composer/concepts/editable-fields).
4. Check whether the missing text is Twig, like `{{ post.title }}`. Twig values don't get a field in the panel by design, edit them in the Code tab.
5. If a section shows **"No text found"**, **"No link found"**, or **"No images or "icons" found"**, click **Add Text**, **Add Links**, or **Add Media** to add that content in the layer editor.

### CSS Styles Not Applying

**Symptom:** Styles you wrote are not reflected in the canvas preview or on the live page.

**Fixes:**

1. Confirm your CSS is in the **CSS tab**, not the HTML tab. CSS inside a `<style>` block in the HTML tab is not auto-scoped and may be ignored by some hosts.
2. Save the widget and do a hard reload of the Elementor editor (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R).
3. If the live page is cached, clear your caching plugin's cache and reload.
4. Check whether another style is overriding yours. Right-click the element on the live page, choose **Inspect**, and look at which rule is applied.

## Dynamic Content

### Dynamic Twig Expressions Showing Raw Text

**Symptom:** On the front end, you see `{{ post.title }}` as literal text instead of the post's actual title.

**Fixes:**

1. Check for a syntax error. Common mistakes are a missing closing brace (`{{ post.title }` instead of `{{ post.title }}`), the wrong quote type, or a typo in the data name.
2. Check whether the expression uses Pro-only data (`site.*`, `user.*`, `term.*`, `request.*`). These return empty on the free plan.
3. Make sure you're on a page where that data exists. `{{ post.title }}` only resolves on a single post or page, not on a static homepage unless it's assigned as a page.

### Theme Builder Template Not Applying to a Page

**Symptom:** You created a Theme Builder template but the site still shows the default theme layout on the target page.

**Fixes:**

1. Go to **UiChemy → Theme Builder**, open the template, and check that its **Display conditions** are set.
2. Check for a conflicting template. If two templates have overlapping conditions, the more specific one wins (a specific post wins over All Posts).
3. Make sure the template is published, not a draft.
4. If you use a caching plugin, clear the cache after saving the conditions.

## AI & MCP

### AI Chat Isn't Connecting or Responding

**Symptom:** The Chat tab won't connect to an AI tool, or its answers stop partway through.

AI Chat requires **UiChemy Pro**. If the tab shows an upgrade prompt instead of a chat panel, that's expected on Free, see [Free vs Pro](/uichemy-composer/getting-started/free-vs-pro).

**Fixes:**

1. **The card still shows Connect CLI, or the window says Waiting for the agent.** Keep the Agent Bridge command running in your terminal, and check you have **Node.js 18** or newer.
2. **The window says No AI tool found.** Sign in to your CLI tool, for Claude Code run `claude`, then click **Try again**.
3. **You use an AI Connector instead of a CLI.** Open **Settings → Connectors** in your WordPress dashboard and make sure your provider is installed and its API key is added.
4. **The answer cuts off or is incomplete.** Ask it to continue, simplify the prompt, or break a large section into smaller requests (header, then body, then footer).

For every connection step and more fixes, see [If It Doesn't Work](/uichemy-composer/uichemy-widget/ai-chat-tab#if-it-doesnt-work) on the AI Chat Tab page.

### MCP Connection Not Working

**Symptom:** Your AI tool (Claude, Cursor, or another) can't connect to your WordPress site through UiChemy's MCP connection.

**Fixes:**

1. Go to **UiChemy → Settings → Integrations** and check that **MCP server** is turned on.
2. Go to **UiChemy → Home** and open the **AI Agent (MCP)** tab.
3. Click **Generate connection** if you haven't yet. The real config only appears once a connection exists.
4. Under **Pick your AI tool**, choose your tool, then under **Add the MCP server** click **Copy** and paste it into your AI tool exactly as shown.
5. Restart your AI tool after adding the server.
6. Make sure **Node.js 18** or newer is installed on your computer and that you're signed in to WordPress as an Administrator.
7. Confirm your site can be reached over HTTPS from outside. A local or localhost site needs a tunnel, like ngrok.

See [Set Up AI to WordPress](/ai-to-wordpress/set-up) for the full steps for each AI tool.
